January 1 Uranus-Venus Conjunction

We have had our eye on the January 1 Uranus-Venus conjunction as the next probable turn date for silver. Even though it is not near a major silver harmonic, we noted here that the recent Uranus-Earth conjunction, at about the same location, marked an important turn date for silver.

This conjunction does occur at a NYSE 18° harmonic, and Venus is a good indicator of turn dates, especially when acting with another planet. So this conjunction will likely be significant for the equities markets as well.

Mount Lokon Erupts

We were on the lookout for a disaster yesterday or today and it looks like it came in the form of a volcanic eruption.

Indonesian volcano Mount Lokon erupted today  (22:07 GMT on the 26th). This volcano is located at 1°21'30''N, 124°47'30'E. Here is the geocentric chart at the time of eruption:
12/26/2011 Geocentric Chart: Mount Lokon Eruption
As described in the Christmas Disaster? post, Jupiter and Saturn are at nearly maximum geocentric opposition, and the arrival of the Moon squaring both provided the trigger. The longitude of the eruption is given by the position on the chart opposite the Moon, 123° E, less that 2° from the actual eruption. The latitude is less that 2° from the Equator, corresponding to the point just between Gemini and Cancer, directly opposite the Galactic Center. Fortunately, no injuries or deaths have been reported.

Venus Revisited

We saw before that Venus is responsible for many of the turns in the markets. Reader Buffee has done some further work on this and found that this planet continues to work well as a turn date indicator. Buffee saved me some work by providing a list of turn dates. I have indicated the 18° turn dates (what I used to refer to as "half-resonance" points) in long thin blue lines, and the 36° ("resonance") points in orange in the graph below.
Venus' Influence on Nasdaq Futures
Indeed, almost every Venus harmonic coincides with a turn of the markets, and some of them are major turns.

Thanks Buffee!

Christmas Disaster?

My introduction to astrology came from reading Susan Seymour Hedke's site, The Galactic Center and 2012. I then read her book, The Galactic Centre 2012 and the Great Waves Coming in December, and followed her work on Facebook and Scribd. It has been quite a while since I studied Hedke's work but many of her lessons have stayed with me. Her work is geocentric, in contrast to most of the work we do here, which is heliocentric.

One thing that Hedke discovered is that near winter solstice there is a high likelihood of a large earthquake. This is because of the conjunction of the Sun with the Galactic Center, which acts like a planet. Furthermore, as the plane of our Solar System flattens out more and more with respect to the GC due to the precession of the Equinox, the GC's influence becomes greater, so in the past decade or so the correlation of earthquakes and winter solstice has become pronounced. But it is not the conjunction of the Sun with the GC alone that is responsible for the disasters - there must be additional planetary alignments in place.

I have had my eye on New Zealand this winter for a possible disaster, and with the series of large quakes that just hit Christchurch, I will try to explain why this happened there, and why Christmas or the day after may be another important time to watch.

Here is the geocentric chart for the 5.8 quake that occurred just before 2:00 pm Christchurch local time.

12/23/2011 Christchurch 5.8 Quake (Geocentric)

The Sun is just between Sagittarius and Capricorn, right at the winter solstice position. There is a lot of debate about the exact location of the GC, or at least the part of most influence since it is quite large, but it is somewhere close to this same region, and based on Hedke's work, it spans a fairly large orb in comparison to any of the planets.

Notice also that Mars is squaring the nodes of the Moon (which, although invisible, act astrologically as planets),  and that Venus is squaring Jupiter and Saturn. These aspects add stress to the Earth, increasing the likelihood of disaster. The stress is focused on the planet at the apex of the square, in this case both Mars and Venus.

Since I have spent so much time looking at heliocentric charts, I have realized that when analyzing disasters, the explanation can sometimes be found here. So let's see what this looked like for the same time.

12/23/2011 Christchurch 5.8 Quake (Heliocentric)

The heliocentric chart shows Uranus squaring Pluto (and the GC) and Earth. Here is more stress.

Now, why New Zealand? The location of disasters is much easier to explain after-the-fact than to predict. In this case we can blame Mars.

Here is a chart I saved from Hedke's site which has since been removed.

At the time she posted the chart, she was explaining the cause of Iceland's 2010 volcanic eruption. Notice that each region on Earth is associated with 2 Zodiac signs (sometimes the same sign repeated). One of them for latitude, and the other for longitude. New Zealand is in the Virgo-Virgo zone - right where Mars is in the geocentric chart. (The geocentric chart must be used for this.)

Another way to determine location is as follows:
For latitude:
  • Begin at the bottom of the chart, between Gemini and Pisces. This point represents the Equator, or 0° latitude.
  • Moving clockwise, each tick is 0.5° North. So the point between Taurus and Gemini is 15° North, and so on, until you reach the top, which is the North Pole.
  • Moving counter-clockwise in the same way gives the Southern latitudes, until you reach the top which is the South Pole.
For longitude:
  • Begin at 0° Aries. This represents 0° longitude.
  • Moving clockwise, each tick is 1° West until you reach the point between Libra and Virgo, which is 180° West at the International Dateline.
  • Moving counter-clockwise gives East longitudes. The point between Taurus and Gemini for example is 60° East.
Calculated this way, Mars' location on the geocentric chart corresponds to about 39° South, 168° East, not far from the Quake's epicenter, 43° South, 173° East.

But why Mars' location and not Venus'? Both planets were in high stress locations. This is one of the things that makes prediction hard - it could have been either one. And this time we were "lucky" that Mars gave both the approximate latitude and the longitude. Most times we either get one or the other, even if we're lucky, which makes the range of possibilities quite large as a prediction. To make matters worse, sometimes the Earth's location is given by the point exactly opposite the trigger planet on the chart, and sometimes it is given by one of the planets that is not the trigger. So I have stopped trying to predict locations at all, but I think it is useful to analyze them after the fact.

Now, why am I more concerned about the 25th/26th? Let's have a look at the charts.

Notice that on the geocentric chart for the 23rd above, Jupiter is in retrograde. Jupiter stops its retrograde motion and reverses on the 25th, giving a near opposition of Jupiter and Saturn.

12/25/2011 (Geocentric): Jupiter and Saturn at maximum opposition
But by now Venus has moved on so there is no "trigger" planet to relieve the stress caused by this opposition. The trigger arrives on the 26th with the Moon squaring the two large outer planets. Mars is still squaring the Moon's nodes.

12/26/2011 (Geocentric): The Moon provides the trigger
How about the heliocentric charts? On the 25th Mercury completes the square made between Pluto and the GC, Uranus and Earth.
12/25/2011 (Heliocentric)

I have noticed in the past that the moment of completion of a square like this sometimes triggers a quake. This completion occurs on the 25th, and the completed square remains through the 26th.

So for these reasons, I see the 25th-26th as potentially more dangerous than the 21st. I don't put too high a probability on this prediction as my experience with this is very limited, but it is something to watch for.

Five Fixed Turn Dates Every Year

From Cowan's Pentagonal Time Cycle Theory,
The birth of the New York Stock Exchange was the signing of the Buttonwood Agreement on May 17, 1792. At this time Earth was in conjunction with Mercury at 237°, Saturn was at 23°, 144° from the Earth-Mercury conjunction. These are two of the five locations on the stock market Great Pentagram.
...
The Earth's location at 237° explains why May 17-20 is often a major stock market turning point. Every year Earth crosses the five pentagram points on the same dates...
We saw the natal chart of the NYSE in a previous post.

The five fixed dates identified by Cowan from the natal chart are:
  • March 4
  • May 17
  • July 31
  • October 13
  • December 23
However, due to the Precession of the Equinox (which to nitpick Wikipedia, is a precession of the entire Solar System and not just Earth, but that is an argument for another day), these dates drift over long periods of time, so they aren't really fixed. In the present time, the five dates are:
  • March 7
  • May 20
  • August 3
  • October 16
  • December 26
The recent impact of a few of these dates is shown in the following graph:
Earth 72° Harmonic Impact on Nasdaq Futures
Earth is closer to the Sun than Mars and Jupiter, so the impact of these reversal dates is not as significant as the turns caused by the 2 further planets.

Silver

After seeing that Saturn's influence on the S&P is tied to the S&P's natal chart, it is clear that when exploring a new security, it is important to begin with the natal chart.

A large collection of (geocentric) natal stock charts can be found in The Textbook for Financial Astrology by Kaye Shinker. The natal chart represents the time that the stock (or other instrument) began trading - the time that money began exchanging hands. This is the information we need.

Silver began trading on the New York Stock Exchange on June 15, 1931, 12:25:00 GMT. Here is the heliocentric natal chart:
Silver Natal Chart
I placed the pentagram (72° harmonic points) based on Jupiter's position. Jupiter is at 28Can37'59", or approximately 118.5° from 0° Aries, and squared to Venus and Ceres, which are both at 18° harmonic positions. Mars and Earth are near 72° harmonics in the natal chart, Neptune is at 36° and Uranus near 36°. Using these pentagonal points, silver's rally and fall since 2009 is explained in the following chart:

Silver Futures Rally and Fall from 2009
It is a little unsatisfying that the 9/26/11 Uranus-Earth and the 10/28/11 Jupiter-Earth conjunctions did not occur near major harmonic points, but this is the best explanation I can find for these major turn dates. It may be relevant that the Uranus-Earth conjunction was square to both Pluto and Mars and there was also a Neptune, Mars Venus trine the same day, and the Jupiter-Earth conjunction was trine Pluto.

Neptune seems to have a major roll in silver's movement, as conjunctions with this planet appear to be responsible for many of the recent dramatic turn dates. Being a very slow moving planet, Neptune is close to but does not reach the 72° harmonic until late 2013/early 2014, coinciding with Uranus and Saturn at 36° points. This is likely to be another dramatic time for silver.

On 12/15/11 both Earth and Ceres crossed 36° harmonic points. Was this enough to stop silver's fall? We will have to watch and see.

There is a Uranus-Venus conjunction on 1/1/2012;
A Jupiter-Venus conjunction near 72° on 1/26/2012;
Jupiter reaches its next 72° harmonic on about 3/1/2012.

December 18 Jupiter-Mars Square

Updated 12/16/11

We have seen the importance of the Jupiter-Mars cycle on market movements, so here at Planet Forecaster we pay special attention to these planets.

Mars will making a square to (90° from) Jupiter on December 17/18th, with Earth in the middle, 45° from both.
12/18/11 Jupiter-Mars Square
The last time Mars squared Jupiter was 11/29/10. At this time, Mars was at a 36° harmonic, and Jupiter at an 18° harmonic.
11/29/2010 Jupiter-Mars Square
The Dow completed a significant correction on this day and kicked off the nearly 3-month long bull run into 2011.
Dow Futures
This configuration is close enough to the Mars 36° cycle previously discussed that is possible that the Jupiter-Mars square and the Mars 36° harmonic will work together to produce a single turn date somewhere in the December 18 - 21 time frame, or they could produce 2 separate turn dates. I'm not experienced enough to predict the outcome, just to recognize that this is a very important time period for the markets. The same applies to the associated Jupiter 18° harmonic shortly after, on about December 29.

Upcoming Mars 36° Cycle

Updated  12/15/11

We saw in an earlier post that the October 3rd Mars 72° harmonic resulted in the dramatic reversal the next day.

In addition, the Nasdaq futures hit their highest value since the 2000 bubble on July 26, 2011, one day after a Mars 36° harmonic. Note that Neptune is squared (90° from) Mars. Although Cowan does not consider planets further out then Uranus, I am beginning to suspect that Neptune plays a very important role in market movements. This will be highlighted in an upcoming post about silver.
7/26/11 Nasdaq High

The impact of these harmonic crossings is shown in the following graph.
Nasdaq Futures and Mars Harmonics
The next Mars 36° harmonic is December 20.
12/20/11 Mars 36° Harmonic
I will be paying close attention to 12/20-21 for a possible major reversal. Whether it is a top or a bottom remains to be seen.

In addition, Jupiter makes an 18° harmonic on 12/29.

A Look at Disasters, Past and Future?

I hope you will forgive me for digressing from posting about stock market cycles. But it is often the case that stock market turn dates coincide with disasters, so I hope you find this interesting.

After making the planetary connection in the previous post from the Deepwater Horizon disaster to 2012, let's go a step further. There are 974 days between these dates. Going backwards another 974 days, is there a similar planetary configuration? At 981 days, on 8/15/07, we have a triple conjunction of Neptune, Earth and Venus, along with a double trine of Pluto, Ceres and Saturn, and Jupiter, Mars and Mercury. This was the day of the magnitude 8.0 earthquake in Peru resulting in 519 deaths.
8/15/2007: Peru 8.0 Earthquake
Going back 3x974 (2922) days from 12/21/12, we come to 12/21/2004, exactly 8 years before 12/21/12, and just 5 days from the magnitude 9.1 Indian Ocean earthquake and tsunami, one of the worst disasters in history resulting in the loss of between 200,000 and 300,000 lives. On that date we find a trine of Uranus, Earth, and Mars conjunct Venus.
12/26/2004: Indian Ocean 9.1 Earthquake
Can we use this method for future predictions? If you believe that 12/21/12 is the "end of the world", this should give you ammunition to support your case. We saw the chart for this date in the last post. Until making this study, I believed that 12/21/12 was merely a temporal marker, possibly marking the end of the "old world order". But after reviewing these charts I now suspect there will be some type of geological event on that date somewhere in the world, though not the "end" of the world.

The following charts do not imply exact dates, because some of the configurations shown can last several days. So they are approximations only.

8/3 years or 974 days after 12/21/12 brings us to 8/22/2015. Here we have Neptune, Earth and Venus nearly conjunct, opposing Jupiter, and squared Saturn and Mercury. Squares are hard aspects that also often portend disaster.
8/22/2015: Will anything happen?
Another 974 days later is 4/22/2018, a trine with Uranus, Saturn and Ceres. Earth and Venus are near their Deepwater Horizon positions.
4/22/2018: Will anything happen?
And after one more we get 12/21/2020, with Uranus opposing Venus, squared Jupiter and Saturn.
12/21/2020: Will anything happen?
This is a date I have been interested in for a long time. There is a geocentric conjunction of Jupiter and Saturn that day, exactly 8 Fibonacci years after the Mayan "end" date (which is itself 13 Fibonacci years after Y2K), and with Earth and Venus in the same positions as both the Mayan date and the Indian Ocean quake.

Luke 21:25
And there shall be signs in the sun, and in the moon, and in the stars; and upon the earth distress of nations, with perplexity; the sea and the waves roaring;

Update from the Previous Post

In the previous post we were looking out for some event to happen today. Right on schedule (almost), we have a Mexican "birthquake" last night, magnitude 6.5 leaving at least 3 dead.

Goro Adachi's Deepwater-Mayan Phi Dates

My favorite blog is Goro Adachi's multicontextual analysis,  Etemenanki. I was looking at some phi-dates today that he is currently focused on:

As Goro explains, each of the events illustrated are contextually related, and likely elude to an upcoming royal birth.

I wanted to see if there was a planetary explanation for these dates. With just a little work I found it!

These dates all correspond to the positions of Neptune, Earth and Venus with respect to each other (as usual, in heliocentric orientation). This is similar to the previously discussed Beast Cycle, a configuration of Mars, Earth and Venus.

4/29/11: Deepwater Horizon
Neptune, Earth and Venus are in a trine

4/29/11: Royal Wedding
Neptune and Earth in the same position as above, but Venus conjunct Neptune

8/22/11 Midpoint: Virginia "Birthquake"
Neptune conjunct Earth, and opposing Venus

12/14/11: Unknown impact
Venus conjunct Neptune, with Earth at the bottom

12/21/12: Mayan "End Date"
Neptune, Earth and Venus in a trine, but with Earth and Venus reversed from the Deepwater Horizon date.

Goro is very interested in the next few days to see what unfolds as it relates to the other events.

We learned from the Beast Cycle post that dates in this type of cycle can be pinpointed by the fastest moving planet, in this case again Venus. Goro has the date approximated as 12/14/2011 based on phi calculations. But I suspect we can refine the date to 12/11/2011, since that is the date of conjunction of Venus with Neptune.

Marty, it's the Planets: The Armstrong 2.15-Year Cycle

Martin Armstrong is undoubtedly one of the greatest cycle theorists of our day. His predictions include the 1989 peak in the Nikkei market to the day, as well as the 1987 crash and 2007 top in the U.S. markets. Armstrong's most famous cycle is 8.6 years, or pi*1000 days (3141 days). In Armstrong's article The Business Cycle and the Future (1999), he states:
I began with the very basic naive approach of simply adding up all the financial panics between 1683 and 1907 and dividing 224 years by the number of panics being 26 yielding 8.6 years. Well, this didn’t seem to be very valid at first, but it did allow for a greater amount of data to be tested compared to merely 3 waves described by Kondratieff.
...The issue of intensity seemed to revolve around periods of 51.6 years, which was in reality a group of 6 individual business cycles of 8.6 years in length.
...The total number of days within an 8.6-year business cycle was 3141. In reality, the 8.6-year cycle was equal to p (Pi) * 1000
In Armstrong's article, he further subdivides the 8.6 year cycle into four 2.15 year intervals, and lists several dates going into the future. Let's find out what is going on with the planets on these dates.
The Economic Confidence Model in 2.15-year intervals
1998.55... 07/20/98
2000.7.... 09/13/00
2002.85... 11/08/02
2005.... 01/02/05
2007.15... 02/27/07
2009.3... 04/23/09
2011.45... 06/18/11
2013.6... 08/12/13
2015.75... 10/07/15
2017.9... 12/01/17
2020.05... 01/26/20
2022.2... 03/22/22

The Venus orbital cycle is 224.7 days. Seven orbits of Venus complete in 4.3 years, or two 2.15-year cycles (224.7*7/365.25 = 4.3). So each 2.15-year cycle traces 3.5 orbits of Venus. For the dates listed above, the position of Venus oscillates between the 2 points indicated in the following picture.
Venus positions at Armstrong 2.15-Year Cycles
Observe the position of Venus at each of the 2.15-year Armstrong Cycles listed above in the image below.

Each Armstrong 2.15-year cycle tracks 3.5 orbits of Venus.

The Mars orbital cycle is 687 days, or 1.88 years. Every (slightly more than) 15 years, Mars makes 8 complete orbits (8x687/365.25 = 15.05). Each 7th of this 15.05-year period (or 2.15 years) reveals a consistent placement of Mars in the Zodiac, labeled 1 through 7 in the following picture. So, starting with position 1, Mars makes a complete revolution back to 1 plus an advancement to position 2 in the 2.15 year interval. The spacing is not even however because Mars travels faster when it is near Pisces/Aries, and slower near Virgo/Libra.

Mars Positions at Armstrong 2.15-Year Cycles
In the next image, the positions of the planets are shown for all 17 2.15-year cycle dates listed by Armstrong above. Notice the position of Mars in each case, as it corresponds to the image above.

Each Armstrong 2.15-year cycle tracks 8/7 of an orbit of Mars (in time not space).

At the same time, Jupiter is making a similar dance. Jupiter's orbital cycle is 4,333 days, or 11.86 years. Every 11 2.15-year cycles, Jupiter makes 2 complete revolutions (11x2.15/11.86 = 2). The 11 positions of Jupiter for the 2.15-year cycles is shown below.

Jupiter Positions at Armstrong 2.15-Year Cycles

The chart of planets for each 2.15-year cycle is shown again, this time labeling the Jupiter positions as they correspond to the above picture.

Each Armstrong 2.15-year cycle tracks 2/11 of an orbit of Jupiter (in time).

In summary, each 2.15-year cycle tracks:
  • 3 1/2 orbits of Venus
  • 8/7 orbits of Mars
  • 2/11 orbits of Jupiter
We have already seen that Venus, Mars and Jupiter are all important movers of the stock market.

On a much larger scale, there are 1000 2.15-year cycles in an astrological age (2,150 years), and 12,000 cycles in the precession of the equinox (~25,800 years).

The 13-Year Cycle

I want to apologize first to my readers. There have been a few comments awaiting moderation for a long time. I only realized yesterday that I needed to check for these.  I was so happy to see them when I finally checked. I am going to address one of the comments now. The reader asks:
Question: Does Bradley explain in his book what causes the 13 Year Low Cycle also seen in major indexes like the $SPX? Is it another conjunction of some exact type?
A very good chart is here on Mr. Bussiere's site:
http://astrocycle.net/wordpress/index.php/category/2-stocks/1-sp-500/
Chart: http://astrocycle.net/SC/spx_M.png
I want to encourage you to have a look at Bussiere's site. It contains a lot of excellent research into economic cycles. Many thanks to my reader for showing me this site. I have added it to my blog list on the right.

The 13-year cycle that is referred to in the above chart is in fact addressed by Cowan. He calls this cycle the "666-Week Beast" cycle, in reference of course to Revelation 13:
16And he causeth all, both small and great, rich and poor, free and bond, to receive a mark in their right hand, or in their foreheads:
17And that no man might buy or sell, save he that had the mark, or the name of the beast, or the number of his name.
18Here is wisdom. Let him that hath understanding count the number of the beast: for it is the number of a man; and his number is Six hundred threescore and six.
The dates of the 13-year (or 666-week) cycle referred to by Bussiere are
  • September 1974 Low
  • 1987 High
  • 2000 High
  • September 2013 High?
Let's look at these one at a time, but first let's see what happened 13 years previously, in 1962.

--------1962 High--------

The markets peaked in March, 1962, just before a steep 3-month drop. I don't have a good image of this, but you can see a nice graph in this article.

In March that year, Mars and Venus came into a special configuration with the Earth. Mars, Venus and Earth were all near 72° harmonics, with Mars and Venus each about 144° from Earth, together forming what Cowan refers to as a Golden Triangle on the Great Pentagram.

March 1962 Beast Cycle
The Beast Cycle is triggered when the fastest planet, Venus, reaches its Golden Triangle Apex, which occurred on March 16, right at the S&P peak at around 71.2 before the crash.

--------1974 Low--------

In 1974 the markets made a double-bottom.

DJIA: 1974 Double Bottom
It is the 2nd bottom that we are interested in. In December 1974, Mars, Venus and Earth again formed a Golden Triangle.
December 1974 Beast Cycle
It is worth noting that the first scanning of a UPC barcode was made in June, 1974 (source: Wikipedia). Hmmmmm.

--------1987 High--------

The October 19, 1987 crash was known as Black Monday. The Dow dropped over 508 points, or 22.6% that day, the largest single day percentage drop in history.
DJIA: 1987 Crash
Mars, Venus and Earth had formed a Golden Triangle 2 days earlier.

October 1987 Beast Cycle
Looking at the series of Beast Cycles above, you can see that each one is rotated 72° clockwise from the previous. The overlay of the 3 above Golden Triangles produces a completed pentagram, which Cowan refers to as the Beast Triple Triangle.

--------2000 High--------

The Dot-Com bubble double peaked in March, 2000, as Mars conjoined Jupiter near an 18° harmonic. A smaller double peak formed shortly after in early July and early September.
Nasdaq: 2000 High
The Beast Cycle was triggered August 3rd, just between the 2 lesser double peaks.

--------2013--------

The Beast Cycle of 2013 will trigger May 21.

The S&P 500 Natal Chart

In the previous post we saw how it was odd that Saturn's impact to the S&P has a greater influence from the pentagram formed at the 6/8/1988 Uranus-Saturn conjunction than the one identified by the NYSE natal chart. It was also curious that Cowan used the S&P for this analysis rather than Nasdaq or Dow which he typically uses. So on a hunch, I looked up the natal chart for the S&P 500, which started trading March 4, 1957.
3/4/1957: S&P 500 Natal Chart
Bingo! There is Uranus, marking the pentagram exactly 144° from the 1988 Uranus-Saturn conjunction. So once again, it is the natal chart which has set the sensitive points of the market.

It is interesting that prior to the S&P 500 there existed the "S&P 90" which began in 1923, with Uranus near another pentagram point identified above, further strengthening the ties of the S&P to this particular pentagram. I don't have the date, only the year, so this chart is approximate.

Saturn

We have seen how Uranus influences the markets over many decades, and how the Jupiter-Mars cycle makes changes over many months. Now let's look at Saturn, the planet in between, to see its impact over many years.

We start with the latest conjunction of Uranus with Saturn, which occurred June 8, 1988. This did not occur near one of the fixed 72° points that we have been talking about so far. However, Cowan identifies this conjunction as a critically important time from which to measure Saturn's movements to determine impacts on the current markets.
6/8/1988: Uranus-Saturn Conjunction
The conjunction occurred at 29° Sagittarius. Cowen has identified significant market turns associated with 60° and 72° movements of Saturn from this starting position. The 60° movements are marked in orange in the graph below, with 72° movements in purple.
S&P Correlation With Saturn 60° and 72° Movements from the 6/8/1988 Uranus-Saturn Conjunction
Why is Saturn's influence more sensitive to the harmonics of this conjunction than those of the NYSE natal chart? I don't know. The next 60° harmonic (300°) will occur mid-July 2012. Saturn completes the circle back to 29° Sagittarius in mid-November 2017.

The New York Stock Exchange Natal Chart

Astrologers use the positions of the planets at the time of a person's birth (their natal chart) to make predictions about crucial turning points in that person's life. As the planets make certain aspects to those natal positions, the person's life is influenced in a way that is a function of the natal planet, the aspecting planet, and the angle of aspect (typically 0°, 45°, 60°, 90° and 180°). In the same way, the New York Stock Exchange has a natal chart for its birth on May 17, 1792.
5/171792: NYSE Natal Chart

You will notice that Saturn and Earth are on critical 72° harmonic points, while Uranus, Jupiter and Mars are near 36°. Was it the NYSE natal chart that determined the pentagram's location on the chart, or was it the planets' configuration on an already determined pentagram that somehow influenced the NYSE into being? Whatever the case, we now can see how the NYSE natal chart is predictive in terms of future stock market behavior.

On August 1, 1914, the NYSE closed due to war in Europe, just as Uranus crossed the 72° harmonic opposite its natal location.
8/1/1914: NYSE Closed
It re-opened on December 12 that year to major lows.

Uranus and the 17-Year Stock Market Cycle

The 17-year stock market cycle has long been recognized by cycle analysts. Each 17 year cycle manifests as alternating bull and sideways-to-bear cycles in the stock market. You can easily find discussions about this cycle, for example here:

Stocks and Commodities: The 18-Year Cycle

or here:

Long Term Stock Market Cycle: Where Are We Now?

But what is the cause? As Cowan explains, the orbital period of Uranus is 84.3 years, so Uranus passes by one of the 72° harmonic points approximately every 17 years. The cycle length varies a little because the planets travel an elliptical path and they speed up when they are nearer the Sun. The position of Uranus on the Zodiacal pentagram is shown in the following illustration:
Uranus 17-Year Cycle
Cowan examines this cycle in detail back to 1897. We are currently in a 17-year sideways-to-down cycle that began in the year 2000. Each sideways-to-down cycle contains a mid-cycle panic as Uranus crosses the 36° harmonic, as it did in October, 2007.
October 2007 Uranus 36° Harmonic

This resulted in the corresponding top in the markets, leading to the 2008 crash.

A Closer Look at the March 2009 Bottom and May 2011 Top

We saw before that the March '09 bottom began with a Jupiter-Mars conjunction at a 72° harmonic point. Cowan had predicted a major bottom on this date, but his prediction was not based solely on the Jupiter-Mars aspect. Let's look again at the chart.
3/7/2009 Planetary Aspects
There is another important conjunction with Earth and Saturn at the 72° harmonic in Virgo, opposing Uranus in Pisces. The Saturn-Uranus cycle is more powerful than Jupiter-Mars since planets further from the Sun have more power to turn the markets. This explains why this market reversal was so significant. Now let's revisit the May 2011 top.
5/19/2011 Planetary Aspects
Not only was there a Jupiter-Mars conjunction at a 72° harmonic, but it was opposing Saturn. There was also an Earth 72° crossing. Was this configuration significant enough to end the bull run from 2009? It may be. I am still researching.

A Few Quick Points

I see that I am getting a large increase in readership so I want to make a few quick points so that you know where we stand in the bigger picture.

  1. First, I will point out that the October 3rd Mars 72° crossing did in fact result in a major turn in the markets. The prediction was a day early, but the crossing actually occurred late in the day, so really it was only off by hours.
  2. I will stress again that the Jupiter-Mars cycle is significant primarily because it has been coinciding with the fixed 72° harmonics.
  3. The larger stock market cycle is driven by Uranus. Each 72° Uranus crossing results in a major top or bottom. This is explored in depth by Cowan. The Uranus orbital period is 84 years, so this results in a 17-year cycle. Interestingly, each 17-year cycle alternates so that a 17-year bull cycle is followed by a 17-year sideways-to-bear cycle, followed by a bull cycle, and so on. We are currently in a sideways-to-bear cycle that began around the year 2000. (But the Dow peaked in 2007 you say? This is why Cowan uses the Nasdaq whenever possible; the Nasdaq is a more reliable indicator of emotional trading.)
  4. Due to the synchronicity of the planets, the 17-year cycle can also be seen via other planets as well. There are other cycles in play too. This is obviously a complex problem.
  5. Every down-trending 17-year cycle contains a mid-cycle panic, occurring at Uranus 36° crossings (and seen also via other planetary configurations). This is the explanation for the 2008 crash.
  6. I do not believe the bull run since 2009 is over. I believe we need a higher order "event" to occur in order to reverse this bull run. However, I am still researching this and am not 100% confident about it.
  7. I apologize for the infrequency of the posts. I am very new to this and there is a lot of research involved in understanding Cowan's work, and then applying it to the current markets.

Mars 72° Cycle Approaches

We have found that Mars-Jupiter oppositions and conjunctions are reliable indicators of major turn dates since 2009, particularly because they are occurring near the special fixed pentagonal 72° points identified by Cowan. Now let's look at Mars' 72° harmonics in between the Mars-Jupiter oppositions and conjunctions. The last Mars 72° harmonic crossing that was not part of a Jupiter conjunction or opposition occurred on January 28, 2011 (conjunct Ceres and opposing Earth).
1/28/2011 Mars 72° Harmonic Crossing

The Nasdaq saw the reversal of a sharp sell-off coinciding with this event.

1/28/2011: Nasdaq Reverses Course as Mars Crosses 72° Harmonic
On October 3, 2011, Mars will cross the 72° harmonic point at 95° from 0° Aries, (or 5° Cancer).

10/3/2011 Mars 72° Harmonic Crossing
Will this be the force that finally puts an end to the 2011 bear? I don't know the answer; I will just be observing.
